Five Thousand Years of Glass Art Highlights
Wednesday, August 30, 7:00pm
Wellesley College Club
The studio glass movement was born in the early 60s. Today, the number of studio glass artists are too numerous to count. This short lecture will feature one artist that many of you in the audience might know something about – Dale Chihuly. He has been a key player in the development of glass art since its birth. While this lecture will focus mainly on Chihuly’s career, it is important to understand how history contributed to his success.
David Rosen has a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT. He comments that “Glass must be in my DNA.” His grandfather and his father before him worked in a glass factory near Pinsk, Russia over 100 years ago. As a collector, he remains fascinated by the intrinsic beauty and artists’ creations of exciting forms in glass. He has given lectures and led full semester courses at Learning in Retirement programs at Harvard, Tufts, LLAIC, Concord (MA), and Boca Raton (FL).
This event is open to WN members and their guests.
